Worms #3 The Biomythography Issue

Issue 3 of Worms Magazine. @worms.mag is a biannual literary style magazine that celebrates female and non-binary culture. This third issue looks at personal myth-making myth-making and the stories that shape us.

Produced during the pandemic, the theme of Worms #3 sprung from Audre Lorde’s Your Silence Will Not Protect You (2017) alongside Joan Didion’s infamous dictum ‘we tell ourselves stories in order to live.’ Lorde’s idea of ‘biomythography’ - a hybrid of myth, history and biography - felt fitting for a time of deep personal reflection. Could memory ever be a trustworthy narrative device? Featuring Michelle Tea, Moyra Davey, Lynne Tillman, Johanna Hedva, Jenny Hval, Ellen van Neervan, Caroline Calloway, Julie Enszerl and more.

[image description: image 1 shows the cover of a magazine. The background is hazy gray, like a TV screen on static. There's a bright orange tangle of something gut-like, which also looks like a knot of writhing worms but mostly like a long-intestine. On top of the worms is a grayscale photo of someone's face, wearing thick-rimmed squarish glasses. A line-drawing of a worm forms the cursive letters at the top of the page, reading: WORMS.

Image 2 shows a black and white print reproduction of a poster for a reading some time in the past by the BLACK LESBIAN POET Pat Barker FROM SAN FRANCISCO. There's a photo of Pat the poet, she's holding a pen like it was a cigar.

Image 3 shows a drawing of some worms, in black and white. Superimposed on the worms' ends are cut-out photo heads of people who feature in the issue. Audre Lorde is the middle worm; Lynne Tillman is up top. In the corner is Johanna Hedva and Jenny Hval. The worms are spilling out from the pages of the Worms Magazine issue 3 that the reader holds in their hands.]
